  BEGINNERS COURSE

Whitburn Archery Club runs courses for beginners.The course lasts for 6 weeks on Sunday evenings 6:30-8:30pm at the Temple Park Leisure Centre.  Tuition and equipment are provided.
 
  The cost per person is £40 which includes 6 practical sessions followed by an equipment talk.  Sessions will be lead by a nationally-qualified coach and once enrolled, you will have access to a dedicated section of our online forum which will give you direct access to club coaches, session plans and a wealth of archery-related information.  Everyone who completes the course will receive a certificate of achievement and also have the opportunity of being assessed for the first of the internationally-accredited 'FITA Beginner Award' badges.  If you decide to join Whitburn Archers you can continue to collect these awards.

FAQ  ON BEGINNERS COURSES
 
When do the lessons take place?
All lessons are scheduled for Sunday evenings, between 6:30pm and 8:30pm, however on occasions this may be changed due to events being held in the main Hall of the Leisure Centre.  Every effort will be made to give as much notice as possible.
 
How long is the course?
You book and pay for 6 lessons,each is two hours long.  On the 7th week you will be advised on equipment and fees should you wish to join the club. 
 
What should I wear?
Clothing should be well fitting tops, not loose or baggy jumpers and comfortable flat shoes or trainers.
  
Is there a minimum age?
No.  We only ask that younger beginners are able to understand and carry out basic instructions.
 
 Will I need Archery equipment of my own?
No, all equipment is supplied by Whitburn Archery Club.
 
What sort of bow will I be shooting?
The main part of the course will be taught with the 'recurve' bowstyle although later in the course you will have the opportunity to try 'longbow' or 'compound' bowsytles.
 
Is it strenuous?
The training bows are light weight, but yes it is a physical sport.  Should you feel any pain or muscle ache please tell your coach immediately.  If you have a disability which you may think may affect your training, please inform the course organiser when you book the course.
 
How big a group will I be trained in?
Each course can accommadate 12 pupils.  Coaching is provided by qualified coaches and possibly coaches under training.
 
Can I join Whitburn Archers on completion of the course?
At the end of the course you may wish to apply for membership of Whitburn Archers, details and advice will be available from your coaches and the treasurer at the end of your course.
